Mobile App UX Design UI Design Prototyping

Duration: 3 months • Client: FinTrack • Role: Lead Product Designer

Overview

FinTrack approached me to redesign their banking app with a focus on improving financial education and helping millennials achieve their savings goals. The existing app had poor engagement metrics and users found it difficult to navigate.

Problem

Users struggled to track savings goals and understand financial concepts

Goal

Create an intuitive banking experience focused on financial education

42% increase in user engagement and 28% improved financial goal completion

Research & Discovery

I conducted in-depth user research to understand pain points and opportunities:

User interviews revealed common frustrations

Affinity mapping to identify key themes

Financial terminology is confusing for many millennials

Ideation & Wireframing

Based on research findings, I created wireframes focusing on three core features: goal visualization, financial education, and automated savings tools.

User testing of wireframes helped validate the core information architecture and identify areas for improvement before moving to high-fidelity designs.

Visual Design

The visual design focused on clarity, accessibility, and a friendly approach to finances. I developed a clean UI with carefully chosen color psychology.

The redesigned app successfully achieved its goals of improving financial education and helping users meet their savings goals. The client was extremely satisfied with the results, and we're now exploring additional features for future iterations.

Lessons Learned

Throughout this project, I gained valuable insights about designing for financial applications:

Simplifying complex financial concepts is crucial for user engagement
Visual progress indicators significantly improve goal achievement
Micro-learning modules are more effective than lengthy tutorials
User testing early in the process prevented major revisions later

If I were to approach this project again, I would incorporate more gamification elements to further increase engagement with financial education modules.
